The Tec would bounce back with a victory against Panthers Select 48-43. A tired Aztecs team had their backs to the wall, down 5 points with under 2 minutes left when Khyree Hawkins knocked down a deep three. The next time down, the Aztecs ran a slip screen to Greg Bennett, for a bucket, to tie the game 42-42. In overtime, Khyree and Greg would continue to link up, accounting for all the points and both finishing with 15pts.

7/15/10
The Tecs first pool play game was against the Savanna Hoyas. The Tec jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back. A balanced scoring attack was the key. 3 players with 10, 3 players with 9 and an overall great team defensive effort. Team was led by Jamar Brisbon who posted 10 steals, 10 rebs, and 9pts to help the Tec win their 1st game 64-40.

PHILLY AZTECS
HOW THEY GOT HERE: Coached by an energetic staff led by Antoinette Bennett, the Philly Aztecs took one on the chin during pool play, suffering an overtime defeat to S.W.A.T. Elite. Earning the second seed from their pool, and developing a chip on their shoulder in the process, the tough and aggressive Philly group is getting better with each game. A potential star is emerging in 6’8 Horace Spencer, whose confidence is beaming entering a matchup with the Titans. While Spencer is more prospect than player at this point, the Aztecs catalyst has been point guard Marcus Floyd, who is without question one of the top floor generals in the tournament. Devin Liggeons, Troy Smith, and Jihad Barnes have been crucial to the Aztecs success as well.
WHY THEY’LL WIN: There may not be a tougher, grittier team in the tournament than Philly. It isn’t always pretty with this group, but they get it done, and their victories are getting wider and wider in margin with each game they play. As a unit, they share the ball well and play in constant attack mode. The relentless pressure their guards put on the ball in combination with Spencer’s presence in the middle have been devastating for opponents thus far. Liggeons and Smith have great size for the perimeter at this level, and have added the needed physical toughness for the Philly squad to emerge as one of the nation’s best.
WHY THEY’LL LOSE: As successful as their up-tempo game has been, the Aztecs have also had numerous turnovers of their own that will prove costly in the semi-final round. Their guards are a bit on the small side when matched up against the other three squads remaining, and particularly against the Titans, who happen to be the Aztecs next opponent. If their gambles on the perimeter aren’t successful, they’ll leave the middle and interior vulnerable, and put Spencer in danger of being in foul trouble. With the big man on the bench, this Aztecs team has a completely different look, and it’s not necessarily a better one.

The 1st Annual Aztecs Future Legends Tournament was a success. All the top teams and
players from the area were in the building. Team Sizzle from Maryland stopped thru to stomp with the big dogs. It’s nothing like an early season tournament with teams looking to show who’s best. PYO’s 11U team did just that. Finishing 3-0 in pool play they would meet another undefeated team, Middletown Knights. This game would show why we play championships. A back and forth affair it would be, but at the end PYO would be too much for the Knights. PYO takes the 11U championship in a tight one 29-24.
The 13U division was just dominated by the Aztecs. Their mission was to show the region they are the best and, boy did they succeed. Taking an automatic loss due to scheduling, the Tec took the loss before they stepped on the court. But winning both pool play games by 20pts landed them in the championship game where they would face the undefeated SJ Blitz. The Blitz swept thru pool play, but would have to put the brooms away for the chip game. The Aztecs ball pressure and ball movement overwhelmed the Blitz. Aztecs win big to claim the 13U Championship.
It was four teams in the 14U division looking to claim the top spot for the Mid-Atlantic region. The beast of the region took a fall early, from a hungry scrappy PYO team. Y.I. would love a rematch after losing a late second half lead and they missed 22 out of 30 free throws. But PYO won and took the tiebreaker that would lock their trip to the championship. The other spot would be held down by Team Nelson another team from Chester, looking to show they’re the team to beat. It was a tight game in the first half, Nelson leading by 4. The second half was different story, Nelson exploded out the gate opening up the lead as large as 20pts. PYO would make a run, but too little too late. Team Nelson wins the 14U championship.

Day 3
First up on this MLK day was Coach Nette and Aaron's 13U squad. They would face a tough and scrappy OLSH. But Tec was just too much inside. Devin Liggeons, TROY SMITH, and new to the team Emmanual "Big Manny" Taylor dominated the front court on both sides of the ball. OLSH would make a run, but too little. Aztecs take the championship.
The bar was set by their little brothers, so Aztecs 14U knew they had to win the chip. But NE Playerz wasn't bout to just hand it over. Even with Mr. Robinson snatching every rebound within his wingspan and him gliding to the rim, Playerz were not rattled. They even had a 1 point lead with 11 seconds in first half. But a late 3 pointer from Khyree Hawkins put the Tec up and they never looked back. Big man Jihad Gardner, Josh Mile, and Big Manny Taylor went to work. Opening the game up in the second half, the 14U would make it 2 for 2 in championship games.
Day 2
The Aztecs kept the ball rolling with both teams winning in the final four. The Tec came to Springfield for a business trip and they are doing just that, taking care of business.
Day 1
Both Aztecs teams are taking care of business. Tec's 13U was up first and boyy did they hold Philly down. With a 74-25 win, everybody realized the Tec was in the building. The second game was a little sloppy, for a team looking a little bit tired from the long day but had just enough to get the win.
The 14U Tec had a very strong showing also. Winning their first game by 20. Their second game was the last game of the night, and after a long day they still jumped out to a 12-0 lead. They played a very talented NE Playerz team. The Playerz's made runs at the Tec all night but the Tec guards were too strong. Aztecs win by 8.
As a basketball fan, this championship game was all you could ask for. The top two teams all year long would face of in the 13U championship game. Even though Aztecs took the regular season win to remain unbeaten for the season, Coach Black would have his troops, ready for war. And from the tip off Hood took control of this game. Lead by Shawn (14pts) looking to be aggressive forcing the issue and Sam (13pts) attacking the paint area, put Aztecs in foul trouble early. Zakee (10) return to give the Hood a boost and Nafis (10pts) did his part to help Hood to a 17 point first half lead. But this game would be the tail of two halves. Just as the Hood owned the first the Aztecs would own the second. After a fired up halftime, well we will just call it a pep talk from Coach Nette & Aaron, the troops responded. And nobody got the message louder then Troy (15pts & 10rebs). Troy refusing to let his team lose came out scoring 7 strait second half points. Also joining this comeback party was Devin (12pts & 10rebs) and Andre (11pts). Aztecs turned the defense up to suffocation and the Hood did just that. All Coach Black could do was watch his lead shrink and disappear as the Aztecs pull off the biggest comeback of the year, to remain unbeaten and most importantly Future Legends League 13U champs. Congratulations to all the player and coaches on both team for a great game and year.

That makes 2 Championships and counting between the two Aztecs 12U. The Aztecs coached by Coach Charles and Coach Kareem, had to hold off a beefed up Zieler team. Zieler added a couple new faces to the roster, but still was no match for the Tec. Lead by the game co MVPs Charles Presley and Quiazee Johnson. Charles dictated the game from the start, getting inside the paint, creating for himself and others. Down the strech was all Quad big shot after big shot, putting the nail in the coffin. Khyree Hawkins kept the floor spaced out by hitting 3 threes, while Jamar Brisbon and Matt Dever was working out in the paint.

The Aztecs 12U coached by Coach Nette held off the Rockets to become the 12U Liberty league champions. The D dictated the game. Aztecs didn't give up a single point in the first 8 minutes of the game. Lead by game MVP Mike Z, who dominated the paint on both ends of the court with 5 block shots and lead the team in scoring with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Also with #3 Jahid and Najee penatrating, they lived in the paint all day. #15 Chester slashing and finishing in the lane, Maadi aka H3 dropping dimes and Stevie launching from long range, you better believe this is just the first of more championships to come.
